River Wonders

River Wonders, renamed from River Safari in 2021, is the river-themed wildlife park inside Mandai Wildlife Reserve, built around species that live in the world's great rivers — the Amazon, the Nile, the Yangtze and the Ganges among them.

Its best-known residents are the giant pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia, housed in a climate-controlled habitat, and the boat ride through an Amazon-style enclosure that lets manatees and river fish swim past at close range. It's open 10am–7pm daily and sits next to Singapore Zoo and Night Safari inside the same reserve, so combined tickets across two or three parks usually cost less than paying for each separately.

Because it swapped its old English name for the current one relatively recently, anyone searching “River Safari” is looking for the same park.

★ WORTH KNOWING

The panda habitat and the river boat ride both draw queues that build through the afternoon — visiting either in the first hour after opening avoids the worst of the wait, especially on weekends.

the thing that ruins more Singapore days than anything else

Rain, heat, and what to do about it

Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.

    Southwest Monsoon

    June to September

    Rain drier than average

Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
