Henderson Waves Bridge

At 36 metres above the road it is the highest walkway of its kind in Singapore, a 274-metre span of curved timber ribs that rise and fall in a wave pattern you can sit inside. Crossing it costs nothing and the bridge is open around the clock; the ribs are lit from 7pm to about 2am, which is when most people come for the view down over Bukit Merah on one side and towards Keppel Bay on the other. Cyclists are allowed but must dismount and push across.

It is one leg of the wider Southern Ridges trail, so it pairs naturally with a walk on to Mount Faber Park and the cable car station a short distance further west. The bridge sits between two parks with no MRT at its foot: from Telok Blangah station on the Circle Line it is an uphill walk in through Telok Blangah Hill Park, or take bus 145, 176 or 273 and alight at the "Bef Telok Blangah Hts" stop, then climb the stairs up to the deck.

The steady wooden crowd-pleaser is the night lighting, but the two hours before sunset are the better trade: the timber and the skyline both photograph well in daylight, the covered timber alcoves give shade, and you avoid the after-dark bottleneck that forms at the middle of the deck. If you continue about nine minutes past the bridge into Mount Faber Park you reach Faber Point, which is free and gives a wider outlook than the bridge itself.
