Fort Siloso stands at Siloso Point, the western tip of Sentosa, and is the only coastal fort in Singapore left more or less intact.
The British began building it in the 1880s to guard the harbour approaches, and its guns were in action in February 1942 before the island fell; it is now an open-air military museum with original coastal artillery still in position, tunnels you can walk through, and the Surrender Chambers, a wax tableau reconstructing the 1942 and 1945 surrenders. Entry is free. The fort grounds and Surrender Chambers run 9am to 6pm with last admission at 5.30pm, and the museum exhibits open from 10am. Getting up to it is half the appeal: the Fort Siloso Skywalk is a 181-metre elevated walkway through the tree canopy, served by a lift that runs 9am to 10pm.
Siloso Beach and its dining strip sit a short walk downhill. Sentosa has no MRT of its own: come via HarbourFront MRT (NE1/CC29) and the Sentosa Express from VivoCity level 3, then take the free intra-island Beach Shuttle or bus to the Fort Siloso stop at Siloso Point — the fort sits at the far western end, so it is one of the last stops rather than a walk from the Express terminals.
The fort and the Skywalk are both free — the only things you pay for are optional add-ons, the browser-based Audio Experience and the after-dark Night Experience. If you want a guide without paying, the free Fort Siloso Day Tours run at weekends and now take in the revamped Surrender Chambers; and use the Skywalk lift to reach the top rather than the road, as it is the step-free route up and the walkway itself is the best vantage point on the site.
