Sentosa Island

Sentosa is the resort island just south of mainland Singapore, connected by cable car, monorail, a pedestrian boardwalk and a road bridge from VivoCity, and packed with beaches, theme parks, golf courses and hotels across roughly 500 hectares.

Should you go?

FREE TO WALK IN

Walking in over the Sentosa Boardwalk from VivoCity is free, and so is cycling in. Once you are on the island the beaches, the Sensoryscape garden trail and its after-dark ImagiNite show, and the internal monorail between stations all cost nothing. You pay only to ride in on the monorail, to drive in, or for individual attractions.

BOOK AHEAD? Not to get in
Nothing to book to reach the island — tap a card at the monorail gantry, or walk the Boardwalk for free. Do book the cable car ahead, where the operator gives 6% off online, and Skyline Luge at peak weekends and school holidays.

⚠ HEADS UP

Walking in is free; the monorail is not. The Sentosa Express costs S$4 for island entry, while the Boardwalk from VivoCity, cycling in, and bus service 123 are all free of island admission — Sentosa says so in its own FAQ. That S$4 buys entry only: travel between stations once you are inside, and the ride back out, are included.

⚠ HEADS UP

Sentosa runs no resident discount of its own, but the cable car does — a 1-for-1 SkyPass works out at S$17.50 a head against S$32.90, to 31 Aug 2026, and residents pay S$2 for a weekday Sentosa Line round trip. It is the cheapest way onto and around the island if you live here.

NOTE

Sentosa runs no Singapore-resident discount. An adult Singaporean pays the same S$4 as a tourist, and neither the cable car nor Skyline Luge publishes a resident rate. The cheaper island fares are tied to holding a TransitLink concession card, not to residency.

NOTE

Motorcycles are not allowed onto the island at all.

Resorts World Sentosa — with Universal Studios and the Oceanarium — sits at one end, while the southern beaches (Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong) run along the coast facing the open sea. There's a fee for some access modes, like the cable car, but walking or taking the free shuttle bus from the island's transport hub onto the island itself isn't separately charged beyond individual attraction tickets.

It's realistically a full day if trying to cover both the beaches and a theme park.

★ WORTH KNOWING

The cable car and the Sentosa Express monorail both charge separately from island entry — walking across the boardwalk from VivoCity is free and takes about 15 minutes, a straightforward way to skip the transport fee if not in a hurry.

On right now, and what each ticket costs

A small one-time island admission that depends purely on how you arrive, then every attraction sells its own ticket. Flip the stubs to your rate; every price includes the resident lines most sites leave out.

Rain, heat, and what to do about it

Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.

    Rain drier than average

Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
