Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a 163-hectare patch of primary rainforest in the north-west of the island, wrapped around Bukit Timah Hill, which at 163 metres is the highest natural point in Singapore.
Demolition works at the summit run from July 2026 to March 2028 — expect the summit area to be fenced or disrupted. Check NParks the week you go.
The long-tailed macaques here are habituated and bold. Do not carry visible food or a plastic bag, and never feed them.
A steep, humid climb with no shops or drink stalls on the trails. Carry your own water and wear covered shoes.
No pets anywhere in the nature reserve. Wheelchair access is limited to the visitor centre and its toilet block — the trails are not accessible.
Entry is free and the reserve opens daily from 7am to 7pm, with the visitor centre running shorter hours from 8.30am to 5pm. Most people come to walk up to the summit and back on the paved Summit Trail, or to take the longer forest loops that branch off it, though the summit area is under demolition and restoration works through to March 2026 and access there is restricted while trails elsewhere stay open.
It is one of the few places left where you can see the forest that once covered the whole island, and the resident long-tailed macaques are hard to miss. It sits a short walk from Beauty World MRT, in the same cluster as Hindhede Nature Park next door.
The visitor-centre car park is small — 83 lots — and on a Saturday or Sunday morning it fills by about 8.30am, with cars queuing down Hindhede Drive by 9am; either arrive before 8am or skip it entirely and park at Bukit Timah or Beauty World shopping centre and walk in. There is also a separate car-park closure running from October 2025 to January 2026, which tightens the squeeze further.
Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.
Southwest Monsoon
June to September
Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.
The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
