Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a 202-hectare stretch of mangrove, mudflat and freshwater pond on Singapore's north-west coast, facing the Johor Strait, with its main Visitor Centre at 60 Kranji Way and a second entrance, the Wetland Centre, at 301 Neo Tiew Crescent.
Four things to know first
Parts of the reserve flood at high tide and in heavy rain, and NParks says plainly not to enter in bad weather. Check the tide before making the long trip out to Kranji.
Estuarine crocodiles genuinely live in these waterways. Stay on the boardwalks and behind the railings.
Very little shade on the outer bunds and constant mosquitoes. Water, repellent and a hat.
No jogging, cycling, fishing, drones or pets anywhere in the reserve.
It is an ASEAN Heritage Park, and entry is free; the reserve opens 7am to 7pm daily with last entry at 6.30pm. What you come for is the wildlife: boardwalks and hides let you watch migratory shorebirds, water monitors, mudskippers and, if you are lucky, estuarine crocodiles, and the 18-metre Aerie Tower gives a view over the canopy. The migratory season, roughly September to March, is when the mudflats fill with waders.
It sits a short ride from Kranji MRT, close to the Kranji War Memorial in the same northern corner. From Kranji MRT the connecting bus differs by day: bus 925 runs Mondays to Saturdays but leaves you a longer walk in near Kranji Reservoir, while on Sundays and public holidays only 925M runs and loops closer to the Visitor Centre.
The birds follow the tide, not the clock: at full high water the mudflats submerge and the waders roost out of sight, so during the September-to-March migratory season aim for a falling or rising tide rather than midday, and check a tide table before you set out.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
