what to order

Signature dishes

  • French Toast — the savoury signature
  • The onion course, a much-praised tour de force
  • Raraka with vendace roe
  • Grilled A5 wagyu

The menu is seasonal, so apart from the French Toast signature treat these as examples of what has appeared rather than a fixed list.

The concept

One set tasting menu, rooted in Nordic cooking with a touch of Japanese elegance and a French foundation — around eight or nine courses plus canapes, seafood-leaning throughout. The evening is choreographed: aperitif and amuse-bouches on the ground floor before diners move upstairs, over roughly three and a half hours.

The chef

The restaurant is led by the Frantzen Group, founded by Swedish chef Bjorn Frantzen, whose Frantzen in Stockholm became Sweden's first three-star in 2018. Martin Ofner is the current executive chef figure, with Kelvin Ng as chef de cuisine from September 2025.

Getting there

41 Bukit Pasoh Road, a three-storey conservation shophouse on the Outram and Keong Saik fringe, in the former Restaurant Andre space near Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar. The nearest MRT is Outram Park (East-West, North East and Thomson-East Coast lines), about an 8-to-12-minute walk; ride-hailing to the door is simplest.

Prices

Top luxury tier — MICHELIN's four-dollar rating. Official prices are S$450++ for lunch and S$620++ for dinner per guest, where "++" means service charge and GST are added; pairings are extra.

How to book

Bookings for the following month are released at 10am Singapore time on the first of each month, so plan one to two months ahead and be ready at the monthly release for Friday and Saturday dates. Groups of five to eight can contact [email protected] or +65 6534 8880. The kitchen cannot do vegan, milk-protein-free or coeliac menus.

Opening hours

Before the renovation, standard hours were Tuesday to Saturday for lunch (from noon) and dinner (7pm to 10.30pm), closed Sunday and Monday. Zen closed on 2 June 2026 for renovation and is expected to reopen around late August 2026 — confirm it has reopened before you plan to go.

The room & dress

An intimate room of about 24 seats with a residential, shophouse feel and Swedish craftsmanship throughout. No dress code is officially published, but smart casual to formal is prudent; avoid shorts, flip-flops and athletic wear.

A little history

Zen opened on 21 November 2018 with Unlisted Collection as Frantzen's first international tasting-menu restaurant. It won two stars in 2019, three in 2021, and has retained three through 2026 — one of only three three-star restaurants in Singapore, alongside Les Amis and Odette. It topped the La Liste ranking for Singapore in 2025.

Who it’s for

For committed food travellers and special occasions — couples curious about Nordic, Japanese and French cooking meeting in a Singapore shophouse. Not for a fast, casual, cheap or flexible meal, and only worth planning once you have confirmed it has reopened after renovation.
