Changi Airport is the rare airport people visit on purpose, and in April 2026 Skytrax named it the world's best for the fourteenth time.
Four terminals run around the clock, and the free attractions inside them are genuinely worth planning a layover around: a butterfly garden on Terminal 3's transit levels holding over a thousand butterflies across roughly forty species, a rooftop cactus garden above Terminal 1 with more than a hundred arid species and a clear view of aircraft movements, a rooftop pool, free 24-hour cinemas, and art installations like Terminal 2's Dreamscape and Wonderfall.
On the public side, the Changi Jurassic Mile lines a one-kilometre stretch of the 3.5km Changi Airport Connector with twenty-two life-size dinosaurs, including a T-Rex just under four metres tall, and it runs all the way to East Coast Park. Terminal 5 broke ground in May 2025 but does not open until the mid-2030s, so it is a construction site rather than something to see.
The single thing worth knowing before you come: nearly all the famous gardens are in the transit areas, past immigration. The Butterfly Garden sits on Terminal 3's Transit Levels 2 and 3, and the Cactus Garden is on Terminal 1's Transit Level 3 — so if you are not flying that day, you cannot reach either of them, no matter what a listicle implies. Without a boarding pass you still get Jewel, the Jurassic Mile and the public departure halls, which is a good half-day on its own. If you are flying, budget ninety minutes airside beyond your normal buffer, because the gardens are spread across different terminals and the Skytrain between them is quick but not instant.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
