它是一座国家级博物馆，讲的是亚洲各地的物质文化——贸易、信仰、宫廷与工艺——从唐代沉船瓷器一路展到南亚雕塑和土生华人的器物。新加坡公民和永久居民凭身份证（NRIC）可免费参观常设展厅；外国游客成人票15新元，优惠票10新元，六岁及以下儿童免费。每天上午10点到晚上7点开放，周五延长到晚上9点，最后入场是闭馆前30分钟。它就在河边，很方便顺道走过卡文纳桥（Cavenagh Bridge）到富丽敦（Fullerton），两分钟脚程。
从莱佛士坊地铁站（Raffles Place） H 出口出来，走到皇后坊约五分钟；最近的巴士站是富丽敦广场（Fullerton Square，站号03011），两分钟就到，落客走的是旧国会巷（Old Parliament Lane），不是河边那一侧。
常设展厅对公民和永久居民免费，但对游客要收15新元票价，所以如果你符合10新元优惠票的条件——60岁及以上长者、学生，或残障人士加一名陪同者——记得带上证件，因为这个优惠只在访客服务柜台凭证给，不会默认给你。周五晚上9点闭馆前那段是最清静的时候，能避开学生团，好好看那些沉船瓷器和信仰主题的展厅。

The museum states free entry for Singaporeans and PRs but publishes no foreigner price for it. Because it is staged inside two permanent galleries it looks to be covered by general admission — but the museum does not say so, so the tourist cells are left empty rather than assumed.
