Singapore Art Museum

The Singapore Art Museum's contemporary-art programme now runs out of SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, a converted freight warehouse at 39 Keppel Road, while its original Bras Basah building stays shut for redevelopment.

FROM Free

Singapore citizens and PRs walk into SAM’s contemporary art exhibition free — no ticket to buy at all. Visitors pay S$10 an adult, S$5 concession. Individual special exhibitions are separate paid passes that everyone buys, locals included.

BOOK AHEAD? Not required
Citizens and PRs need no ticket for the contemporary art exhibition — just walk in. Visitors buy online or at the counter; there is no timed entry, and the published prices already include the booking fee. A special exhibition such as Sugimoto is bought separately.

⚠ HEADS UP

Two different prices are floating around for SAM, and both are real. The standing contemporary art exhibition is free for citizens and PRs and S$10 for a visiting adult. A ticketed special exhibition — currently Hiroshi Sugimoto — is a separate pass at S$20 for a visitor and S$15 for a local. Check which one you are buying.

NOTE — TO 11 OCT 2026

Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form Is Emptiness runs to 11 Oct 2026. After that the special-exhibition price on this page needs re-checking — the free general entry for citizens and PRs does not change.

NOTE

SAM is at 39 Keppel Road, Tanjong Pagar Distripark — nearest MRT Cantonment. The old Bras Basah Road building is still not open to visitors, and turning up there is a wasted trip.

NOTE

Bring NRIC, a student pass or a passport. ID is checked at the counter for both the free and the concession rates.

It shows contemporary work from Singapore and Southeast Asia across rotating exhibitions rather than one fixed collection, so the walls change through the year — the Hiroshi Sugimoto and Maria Taniguchi shows both run into late 2026, alongside newer commissions. Entry is ticketed, and one ticket covers every gallery open that day: Singapore citizens and PRs pay $15 (adult) or $10 (concession), tourists $20 or $15, with free entry for children under six and for local students and teachers.

It opens daily 10am to 7pm, last entry 6.30pm, and you can book a timed slot online in advance. It sits down by the port off Keppel Road, about a 15-minute walk south of Maxwell Food Centre in Chinatown. The nearest MRT is Cantonment on the Circle Line (CC31, Exit 1); from there you walk to the unmarked ground-floor unit #01-02 inside the working Distripark freight terminal, which looks nothing like a museum from the street.

★ WORTH KNOWING

Every line of the price table has a lower Singapore-resident rate, so bring photo ID to the counter — the tourist price runs a third higher. It is also easy to miss that local and locally-based students and teachers get in free with proof, as do children six and under and persons with disabilities with one caregiver.

the thing that ruins more Singapore days than anything else

Rain, heat, and what to do about it

Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.

Live — NEA · weather window Checking with NEA…
Beyond four days · August on a 30-year average

    Southwest Monsoon

    June to September

    Rain drier than average

Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
