National Gallery Singapore

National Gallery Singapore occupies the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings, joined under a single canopied roof, and holds the largest public collection of modern Singapore and Southeast Asian art anywhere.

BOOK AHEAD? Not required
There is no timed entry. Buy online, at a self-service kiosk, or at a Visitor Services counter — and every ticket stays valid for 180 days from purchase, so an unused one is not wasted. Citizens and PRs do not buy a ticket at all; they present NRIC or Singpass.

⚠ HEADS UP

The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery — the Gallery's headline permanent collection — is closed for redevelopment and does not reopen until late 2027. Works from the National Collection are shown elsewhere in the building instead.

⚠ HEADS UP

There is no named special exhibition running at the moment: the Singtel Special Exhibition Galleries say only "more information coming soon". The S$25 Special Exhibition ticket is therefore poor value today — general admission at S$20 is the sensible buy until a show is announced.

NOTE

Passion is Volcanic is rated R18 and can only be bought at the counter, not online. Under-18s are refused.

It's open 10am–7pm Sunday to Thursday and until 10pm on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, with the two former courtrooms — including the original Supreme Court chamber — preserved and viewable as part of the galleries.

The building itself is as much the draw as the art: the domed rotunda and marble staircase are period features, not reconstructions. It sits at the edge of the Civic District, opposite the Padang.

★ WORTH KNOWING

The rooftop bar and the Padang-facing terrace are accessible without a gallery ticket, so it works as a free stop for the view and the building even without paying for the exhibitions — useful if the budget or time is tight.

    What you should be paying

Ticket resellers earn a commission on what they sell you. We sell nothing, so here is the operator's own price — compare before you buy.

for General Admission, straight from the operator's own price table.

Anything above S$20 is a markup. A reseller can be genuinely cheaper — some run below the gate price to win the booking — but you now know which side of the line you are on. Check the total at checkout, not the headline.

    S$20

100% off General Admission: Free instead of S$20, on every adult ticket.

This is wider than most people think. The Gallery's own term is "Local — Singaporeans & PRs". General admission is genuinely free, not discounted; NRIC or Singpass is checked at a kiosk or counter. Locally based students and teachers are free to all areas regardless of nationality.

    Is it worth it?
    Cost per hour inside

    S$8/hr

S$20 for General Admission over about 2.5 hours, and nothing at all if you are a citizen or PR. The Gallery states visitors typically spend three hours here. The duration is our estimate, not the operator's.

the thing that ruins more Singapore days than anything else

Rain, heat, and what to do about it

Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.

Live — NEA · weather window Checking with NEA…
Beyond four days · August on a 30-year average

    Southwest Monsoon

    June to September

    Rain drier than average

Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
