Eurasian Heritage Centre

The Eurasian Heritage Gallery sits inside the Eurasian Community House at 139 Ceylon Road, in the Katong stretch of the east coast, and traces the history of Singapore's Eurasian community — the descendants of European settlers and Asian locals, with their own Kristang language, food and largely Catholic traditions.

It began as a single room in 2003, grew to three galleries, and reopened after a major revamp in September 2019, launched to mark the Eurasian Association's centenary. Entry is free for Singaporeans and permanent residents and S$5 for other visitors, and it opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm, public holidays included, closing only on Mondays. The galleries are compact, so an unhurried walk-through takes under an hour, which makes it easy to fold into a Katong outing.

Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple stands a few doors along the same road. The nearest station is now Marine Parade (TE26) on the Thomson–East Coast Line, about a 10-minute walk via Marine Parade Road and East Coast Road, and the gallery is set back inside the Eurasian Community House rather than fronting Ceylon Road, so look for the building, not a museum sign.

★ WORTH KNOWING

Guided tours here are not a walk-up option — they run only as packages arranged in advance through the Eurasian Association, so turning up unannounced gets you the self-guided galleries alone. Book ahead if you want a docent for the Kristang-language and family-history material, which is where the small collection is strongest.

    What you should be paying

Ticket resellers earn a commission on what they sell you. We sell nothing, so here is the operator's own price — compare before you buy.

for General admission, straight from the operator's own price table.

Anything above S$5 is a markup. A reseller can be genuinely cheaper — some run below the gate price to win the booking — but you now know which side of the line you are on. Check the total at checkout, not the headline.

    S$5

100% off General admission: Free instead of S$5, on every adult ticket.

This is wider than most people think. The museum's own wording is Singapore citizens and permanent residents, and the rate is genuinely zero rather than discounted. A pink or blue NRIC is checked at Visitor Services.

    Cost per hour inside

    S$6.67/hr

S$5 for General admission over about 0.8 hours, and nothing at all if you are a citizen or PR. Three small galleries in the Eurasian Community House. Our estimate; the operator notes viewing may be capped around an hour when tours are running. The duration is our estimate, not the operator's.

the thing that ruins more Singapore days than anything else

Rain, heat, and what to do about it

Live readings and forecasts from NEA. Four days is the limit — past that, nobody is forecasting, they are showing you an average.

Live — NEA · weather window Checking with NEA…
Beyond four days · August on a 30-year average

    Southwest Monsoon

    June to September

    Rain drier than average

Short, sharp early-morning showers and occasional squall lines. Drier overall than the northeast wet phase.

The other good window. Rain tends to arrive early and clear, leaving usable afternoons. This is also when haze can occur, which is worth checking rather than assuming.
