Register Malaysia e-gates or Autogate for foreigner?
Autogate / e-gate is an automated border control system that allows eligible travelers to enter Malaysia using an electronic passport without having to go through the traditional immigration checkpoint counter. The system is designed to speed up the immigration clearance process and reduce the waiting time for travellers arriving at Malaysia’s KLIA airport and two land checkpoints in JB (Johor Bahru) – Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint.
To be eligible for the Autogate system, travelers must have an electronic passport or e-passport that contains an embedded microchip. The e-passport will have a symbol on the front cover that looks like a rectangle with a circle inside it. As shown in the picture.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can proceed to the Autogate system when you arrive at the airport or land checkpoint. You will need to scan your e-passport at the Autogate kiosk, which will verify your identity and eligibility to enter Malaysia. You may also need to have your fingerprints, iris and facial biometrics scanned and your photograph taken by the system. Due to the iris and facial scanning, travelers are reminded to remove sunglasses, caps, face masks or any headgears that may obstruct the image scanning.
